Et sagligt og relevant bidrag til diskussionen om svanemærkede eller økologiske produkter – af Phillip Hobbs, Naturligeprodukter.dk
- Svanemærket is a logo/mark made to show that a product is proven safe to use.
- Organic is a certification given to a product to show that it does not contain any synthetic substances.
There is a lot of confusion on the subject with for example Ecocert and others stating that their products are certified organic, yet contain a minimum of just 10% organic ingredients including the water which cannot be organically certified as it cannot be grown… So this makes it confusing when looking for a safe organic product to buy.
The best advice I can give is to look at the different logos of the organic certifications and choose only those that are the strictest, for example USDA and ACO.
Svanemærket is a whole other story…
If you are ok with proven harmful synthetic ingredients in the products you use on your body then yes svanemærket is a little (but not much) safer than the mainstream chemical filled products one can buy in the supermarket.
Yes Svanemærket may not contain parabens, or so called PROVEN (in DENMARK/EU) allergens/perfums. But what about all the other ingredients such as SLS or Propylene Glycol among others that are proven harmful (elsewhere) see Cosmetics Database an Independent/NON- Governmental organisation.
Why do I make these statements against the Svanemærket?
Well its simple, I just look at the ingredients IN the products, I NEVER just blindly trust the marketing hype that we are all made to believe. I research the hard facts of each and every ingredient. I put research the MSDS’s of the ingredients and I read any scientific reports I can get my hands on.
See below where I have taken an example of a svanemærket and an ecocert certified product. NOTE: I have only taken the obvious examples (click on the links to learn more)
Body shampoo – Ecocert and svanemærket:
Aqua, Aloe Barbadensis, Sodium Coco-Sulfate, Coco-Glucoside, Glycerin, Sodium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Rice Bran Protein, Glyceryl Oleate, Lauryl Glucoside, Stearyl Citrate, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Benzoic Acid, Sodium Dehydroacetate.
Baby creme – svanemærket:
Aqua, Ethylhexyl Stearate, Olus, Dicaprylyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Ceteareth-20, Glyyceryl Stearate SE, Butyrospermum Parkii, Ceteareth-12, Cetyl Palmitate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Lactic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Benzoic Acid, Dehydroacetic..
How can you find your way through all this?
Easy, follow my blog and ask me questions. I am here to help you.
I also have a guide so you can research for yourself. Plus I will soon have available a handy guidebook for finding your way through the chemical jungle.
There are many safe brands available, but be careful and use the info in my blog to help you. Me and my family in both Australia and in Denmark use ONLY the Miessence brand I make available on my webshop at naturligeprodukter.dk
I look forward to your comments.
